In 2023, Scarecrow Inc. participated in the 44th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Clinical Veterinary Medicine at Osaka International Convention Center from 18-19 November 2023. This time Scarecrow Inc., Japan held the lunch seminar about the update on research update as the seminar topic is detailed below;

Topic 1: Effect of Natural Herb Chanca Piedra on Calcium Oxalate

Chanca Piedra (Phyllanthus niruri) is a perennial shrub of the Euphorbiaceae family. 233 academic articles have been identified in a variety of different studies and articles have demonstrated that Phyllanthus niruri protects the kidneys from calculus formation by inhibiting the growth of uric acid crystals. the generation of calcium oxalate (CaOx) calculus was implanted in the rat bladder, and this was followed by 50 days of oral administration of Chanca Piedra at 5 mg per rat per day. As a result, the generation of what is known as struvite calculus due to CaOx was observed to be suppressed in the Chanca Piedra group.

Topic 2: Effect of Tricho S and Tricho Cure on Alopecia X

The study recruited poor medical response patients and refractory patients in traditional treatment for a study. More than 30 dog owners expressed interest in the study and participated. The granule type Tricho S and spray type Tricho Cure were used for these dogs as appropriate. The treatment period was set at six months, and safety and efficacy were investigated with Tricho used in addition to the continuation of a traditional treatment. The evaluation was conducted in five steps, which were significantly improved, improved, somewhat improved, unchanged, and exacerbated.

As of the end of August, no serious adverse events had been observed during the treatment period of this report, suggesting that Tricho S and Tricho Cure can be used safely in addition to the traditional treatment. The addition of these compositions to the traditional treatment found a 56.0% improvement in alopecia (improved or higher) for animals with poor medical response who were defined as refractory cases for this report. Also, when Tricho S was administered to animals with symptoms of alopecia who could not be treated as desired because of an underlying disease or other reason, growth of the undercoat was observed from three weeks after with growth extending to the back in some cases. The hair on the far side of the back grew slowly and was difficult to treat with previous methods. Tricho S and Tricho Cure can be used safely in combination with the traditional treatment and are thought to have an effect in improving alopecia.

Topic 3: Forecast of Patent Application/ANP Lowering Medicine Treatment/Preventive Medicine Pinfenon-S®

Of the 27 dogs with mitral regurgitation, 14 dogs who were considered to have left atrial volume load showed a significant decrease in the hANP value (p < 0.05) (Figure 1). In particular, four animals in the high hANP value group (> 300 pg/mL) presented a greater significant difference (p < 0.01). In addition, a significant decrease was observed in the respiratory rate during sleep after administration compared to before (p < 0.01). No significant adverse events were observed in this study.

Observation of a significant decrease in hANP suggested that Pinfenon-S is effective in reducing the left atrial volume load in patients with mitral regurgitation through the effect of the dilation of peripheral blood vessels. The results of this study suggested the efficacy of this treatment in animals who have reached the limit of internal treatment. We would like to collect data on the further potential of Pinfenon-S through studies on additional subjects going forward.
