Difficulty walking, caused by brain damage due to breeder's neglect...
This is the journal of how an owner heard that diagnosis and then struggled against illness.

Maltese, 9 years old, male, 2.6 kg, with heart disease.
I am doing my utmost to extend his life for even one day.

At present, I am giving him a diuretic and heart medicine, as well as something to fight the formation of pus due to his inflamed gums.

I ordered Pinfenon the other day.
Thank you for your very kind phone call, Mr. Okawa.

This Maltese [male, 9 years old] is suffering from mitral valve insufficiency now, but about 7 months after I bought him from a breeder, he began to have difficulty walking.
The vet examined him and said that it was caused by his having had a high fever soon after birth and being neglected by the breeder, so his brain was damaged, and that caused his trouble walking, as well as hindering the replacement of his baby teeth.

Ever since that diagnosis, he has been unable to eat, drink, urinate, or have a bowel movement without my help.

The illness I mentioned at the beginning was discovered last year (July 21, 2007).
He was lethargic, so I took him to the vet and was told that he had pulmonary edema and might not make it through the day.

After that, he has somehow stayed alive up to now.
I have been giving him Pinfenon for about 10 days.

His cough has not improved, but he seems to be breathing a little easier.
However, the trouble breathing caused by his coughing is becoming worse and worse; so beginning yesterday, I added 1 more pill at noon to the 2 pills I had been told to give him morning and evening. As he weighs 2.8 kg, that seems like quite a large amount, but do you think it is all right?

I'm sorry for sending such a long message, but I would appreciate your support.

I have been giving him Pinfenon since the middle of January, and at present he is taking 6 pills a day.

Around a week ago, his abdomen was distended, so I had him examined by the vet, and it appears that fluid is accumulating there.
I have begun to give him 2 kinds of diuretics.

Will Pinfenon make the medicine more effective?

I have been giving him 2 Pinfenon pills a day for about 2 weeks. Do you think it could have any connection with the ascites?

Since then, his cough that is characteristic of heart disease has gotten much better!!
I am so delighted!!
I am happy to have found Pinfenon.

Thank you.
