Maltese - Can mitral valve insufficiency be cured? No.2

Here is a message we received from a lively Maltese boy named Tom, along with a photograph.
The owner asks whether it is all right to decrease the amount of Pinfenon, now that the dog is well again.

It's been a while since I last wrote you.
My dog Tom (mitral valve insufficiency), who lives with my parents, has been taking Pinfenon.
It has been 3 months since he began taking it.
Mr. Okawa told me he should take it for 3 months, and we followed your directions exactly.

He is still bothered by that cough (especially at night), but thanks to you, he has a great appetite and is very lively, the way he used to be.
However, he only goes to the bathroom when taking a walk, so with the diuretic he is taking, he has to be taken outside more often than formerly, and that seems to be hard on my family.

They are giving him 2 pills, both morning and night, as you advised us; but my mother-in-law says, "Can't we reduce the dosage? He is too lively." What do you think of that suggestion? I know you must be busy, but I would appreciate it if you could take the time to answer.

It's been a while since we have written. We are very happy to know he is healthy.
You wrote that he appears to be too lively on the present dosage, so it will probably be fine to reduce it to 1 pill in the morning and 1 at night!

The weather is about to get colder. We hope you will all stay healthy.
