Cavalier - Mitral valve insufficiency - Had a narrow escape

~Question from a Cavalier living in Saitama Prefecture~
November 13, 2005

● Question from customer
I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (mother and child) taking the supplement.

They were both diagnosed the other day as havingmitral valve insufficiency, although it is fortunately still in the early stages, so the only symptom was a heart murmur.

The vet is planning to do another test in a month and decide what medications to use. However, as the dogs' owners, we wanted to relieve their symptoms as much as possible before their condition became worse, so we have placed an order with you.

Here is a report on their present condition.

They are both large, heavy dogs, and we have them on a diet just now. Yesterday's test came out normal for blood sugar and cholesterol, so no problems.

1. Momo: a seven-year-old spayed female, 13.2 kg
2. Bia/Via: four years and ten months old, male (not neutered), 10.5 kg

We hope for your advice.

~From us here~

We have read your message.

Both dogs appear to be in the early stages ofmitral valve insufficiency-correct?

Please start them on the following dosage of Pinfenon:
Momo: 2 pills in the morning and 2 at night, for a total of 4 per day
Bia/Via: 1 pill in the morning and 2 at night, totaling 3 per day

Please be especially careful not to forget to give it to them at night.
The night dose is to protect the cells during sleep, when the immunity is lowered.

If their condition improves, You can reduce the daily dosage by 1 or 2 pills.

It will be getting colder and colder from now on, and animals, just like humans, may be prone to serious illness.

Once an animal is in serious condition, you will have a terrible time, so you would be wise to begin paying special attention to your dogs' care.

Please keep us informed as to their condition.

We will be sending out your Pinfenon in the last mailing today, so it should reach you by the seventeenth (Thursday), at the latest.

Take good care of your dogs.

~From Bia and Momo~

Thank you for sending us Pinfenon the other day.

I gave it to our two Cavaliersas soon as it came, and today, I took one of them, Bia, for testing.

Bia plays rough and is more active than his mother, so we expected his condition to worsen more rapidly, but...
An ultrasound and x-rays showed his mitral valve to be closing properly; there is no heart murmur or any sign of a heart abnormality.

We were astonished!

I thought that the results obtained last time from an electrocardiogram and listening to the heart were not decisive, but...

According to the vet, "He may have been just on the verge of mitral valve insufficiency."

Whatever the case, I suspect that if he had continued on with his regular way of life, he would have ended up with mitral valve insufficiency, and I am convinced that its early detection and his taking Pinfenon caused this miracle.

In addition, the last time I contacted you, I was in shock after learning of their disease and couldn't sleep. I was distressed, but after receiving the warm message from Okawa-san, I myself felt greatly relieved.

Thank you so much.

I intend to keep using Pinfenon for my dogs.

I will also let you know the results of Momo's test.
She has also recently lost her aversion to taking walks and seems to enjoy them, so I am certain of good results.

(Later...)

Okawa-san:
I appreciated your recent help very much.

I finally took Momo, the mother dog, to the vet today and would like to report on her results.

They were just what I had expected!
She did not even have a heart murmur.

Momo will be eight years old in March of this year.
I am so happy that, in spite of being a Cavalier, she doesn't even have a heart murmur at this age.

I am extremely thankful for having found Pinfenon and also full of gratitude to you.

I will keep giving it to both Momo and Bia and hope to keep them alive up to the age of fifteen.

Thank you again, and I would appreciate your continued assistance.
