Some years ago my pet dog, Roku, died of cancer, and this sad event spurred me to start an animal medical care business. Roku had breast cancer, which metastasized all over her body, and there was nothing that could be done to save her.
Surgery, anticancer medication, and radiation treatment have their place in the treatment of disease, but they also have their limits, as they cannot always help the pet and their owner to peacefully spend the last days of their time together. 
I sometimes see pets suffering from atopy or allergy, whose body has been badly affected by an overreliance on steroid treatments.
Increasingly, especially with the Internet and modern media, pet owners research more natural and complementary therapies to help maintain their pet’s daily health or treat health conditions.
Over the years I have spent working with many vets, I have noticed an increasing number are diversifying their way of treating animals, and are now incorporating a range of treatments that are not reliant on Western medicine.
Recently, I heard a wonderful phrase to describe our pets: companion animals. Nothing would please me more than to bring increasing happiness, health and joy to the many families with companions.
